18-21st of June the summer-camp organised by Shinkyokushin Norway was held in Kristiansand, Norway. Camilla Bolin Shihan and Tadashi Ishihara Shihan was guest instructors. Piotr Sztencel Photo
The summer-camp have been build up trough many years of steady work, and have a stable number of participants -well over a hundred. Lauåsen Kyokushin Karate was the host, and landed a great camp in every way. Piotr Sztencel Photo
Poland colored the camp with a with an energetic team ⇑ from SMOK Fight Clubin the lead of Piotr Sztencel Sensei, who are well known in the Norwegian environment. The cooperation between Poland and Norway with this joint, Tomasz Basiak Branch has expanded. Visiting each others camp or seminar, or training together in Japan. ⇓
Sweden has meant a lot to Norway and the development in Norway. This summer camp was yet another proof of that. Camilla Bolin Shihan (Link merits) visited Norway for the second time, and it certainly won’t be the last. Piotr Sztencel Photo
Bolin’s accuracy and focus on the core of Karate – the fundamental basics, makes everyone who wants to improve. The honest enthusiasm that Bolin radiates is quickly contagious to the students who participate. Piotr Sztencel Photo
It is noticeable when you have an instructor with this type of good energy. Not only is it contagious – it motivates, and the contact between instructor and group becomes as close as it can be. Piotr Sztencel Photo
Nothing is accidental, and everything is explained thoroughly. At the same time as the fundamentals are covered, you constantly get comparisons further into the system – everything is connected. Piotr Sztencel Photo
This year’s camp was very well balanced. Time for training, time for socializing and not least time to eat and rest. It can quickly become a tight program – but experience suggests that “one eats the other”. If you run a very tight program with training, you will have challenges when it comes to rest – and this is the absolute most important thing. Piotr Sztencel Photo
You have to realize that a camp often provides a training day that contains far more training than you normally do. Group division, content and that everyone got the same amount of time with each instructor.
Foreign instructors are a must for Norwegian Summer Camps. There are several goals with that. First and foremost, Norwegian instructors must be trained themselves. They must stand on the line themselves to develop, be challenged with new combinations, new ways of training and thinking. Furthermore, international instructors are an exotic element for all participants. Training with profiles motivates all ages, and it also gives an understanding that you are part of something bigger.
Japan – the land of karate. When you train Karate, Japan is a natural focus. As close to the core as possible should always be a desire if you want to develop, and thus to keep regular contact with Japan by going to Japan and inviting Japanese instructors as often as possible. Piotr Sztencel Photo
Tadashi Ishihara Shihan has a recognized track record that few can match. Not only as a performer, but also as a very skilled coach. He has a unique knowledge of how to use the body effectively in techniques. To convey this, he has a number of very interesting methods and exercises that help practitioners find the key to better technique and execution.
If you are a competitive athlete, let alone an instructor yourself – train under Ishihara, and it will feel like Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve on the same day. There is a lot to process, so your mind and body have to work hard to take in as much as possible. Piotr Sztencel Photo
Ishihara is skilled at communicating with body language, and in addition, the Norwegian organization has Marleen Gregusson Sensei who speaks Japanese – and acts as a translator where needed. Piotr Sztencel Photo
Tadashi Ishihara is also very skilled at linking everything together – basic, Kata and Kumite. In many cases you can see that these are only theoretical transitions, but with Ishihara’s knowledge, there are real transitions that work. Piotr Sztencel Photo
As an instructor bonus, we also got to see the next generation Bolin as an instructor, Aurelia Bolin ⇓ (Picture from Stockholms Kyokushin Karate)
This young athlete already has strong achievements – such as the European Championship title in U-21. In EKO / WKO, we have experienced that this level is far higher than senior in Norway, both men and women.
Not all athletes are good instructors – but in this case it was. Aurelia is very clear in what she is looking for, details and focus are constant. And when you know that fighting is “fresh produce” then you just have to absorb as much as you can when such an opportunity presents itself. Aurelia Bolin ⇓ (Picture from Stockholms Kyokushin Karate)
Good drills, preparation and task sparring were on the menu, and it was sometimes fun to see retired fighters struggle a lot when they were forced into new paths. -and for those who didn’t link it (if there were any), you really don’t become competitive if you are locked into old habits and a “one trick pony” fighting style.
Throughout the camp there were also courses and seminars. by Lauvåsen Kyokushin Karate ⇑ The police held seminars on sports, drugs, attitudes and how to deal with this. “Save the Children” held courses on how to get children involved in training in the best possible way, and how to report unwanted situations.
Meditation and thought management were held by Ingrid Bjordal Shihan, who with her always positive energy lifts others around her. Magic Show with Anders Frydenlund Sensei and disco for the children. Piotr Sztencel Photo
A rich camp, but without stress – extremely high instructor level, wrapped in an incredibly positive atmosphere – Shinkyokushin Summer Camp 2026 – masterfully held by Lauvåsen Kyokushin Karate
