We have just seen a very good European Championship in every way. Hosted and organized in the best possible way by Georgia. Next year’s European Championship may actually surpass this, and we will take a look at how that is possible.
Next year’s European Championships will be held in Lithuania. That in itself is not sensational, but the background and format are worth looking into.Lithuania has a geographical advantage as an organizer, it is central in Europe and for most people it is easy to get there – for an acceptable price.
As an organizer, it is beyond any doubt – Lithuania always holds solidly organized championships. This is known after witnessing well-run championships for a number of years. They have organized European Championships and World Championships.
2027 is a World Championship year. The biggest championship we have, which will be the 14th World Open Championship. The year 2027 also marks 50 years of Kyokushin in Lithuania!
In ⇓1977 the first Kyokushin Dojo in Lithuania was opened, by Jonas Gylys. From the start Growth, popularity and top expertise have developed the small country into a major power in Full Contact Karate. In 2003, Lithuania organized the European Championships for the first time, and since then they have done so several times, as well as the World Championships in weight classes.
The 2027 European Championships will have a different format than before. This time, all U-classes will be held, as well as the adult categories. The event will naturally be larger than normal, but with Lithuania as the organizer, it is in safe hands.
It is one thing to organize a big championship, another thing to do it with high quality. We have seen examples in the Kyokushin world of large championships demanding so much that the organizer is unable to meet the needs.
Next years EC with all youth and adults categories, will bring the championship number of 600 participants, Lithuania will host their anniversary and the EC at the very best.Looking at next years schedule, it ill also make sense to hold a full EC in the Spring, since the main focus in the Autumn will be the 14th World Championship.
